Buying a Pet Carrier
When you buy a pet carrier for your pet to travel in, it is important to be sure you get one that is the right size for your pet. The pet carrier needs to not only accommodate your pet, but it also needs to accommodate you and all of your modes of travel.
Pet Size and Pet Carriers
Buying a pet carrier that works well for your pet means buying one that your pet fits into easily. They don't need to be able to walk around in it (large animals will generally not have this kind of freedom in their pet cage), but your pet does need to be able to switch from laying on their left size to laying on their right side. Without the ability to change sides, their blood is going to basically "sit" on one side of their body during entire trips, likely causing the bed sores and other nasty problems that are easily avoided with a larger pet carrier.
Traveling by Airplane
If you travel by airplane, it's important to call the airline that you commonly use and talk to them about traveling with your pet. The airline should provide you with animal and pet carrier restrictions and regulations that you will have to follow in order to fly with your pet on their airline. Be sure that your pet carrier is within the size limits provided by the airline and meets all of their other regulations and restrictions.
Travel by Car with Pets
When traveling by car, you should definitely keep your animal in a pet carrier, especially if you have a small animal such as a small dog or a cat. Small animals are likely to climb under your feet when they become afraid of the moving vehicle they are traveling in, and their presence is extremely likely to hinder your driving performance. For example, cats like to curl up under their owner's feet, which, while driving, are at the break and gas peddles. If your pet curls up under these pedals, you may be unable to speed up or slow down at critical moments, potentially causing major auto wrecks.
